The Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden is located on Mount Rokko in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. Opened on June 24, 1933, under the guidance of Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a leading figure in botany, the garden sits at an elevation of 865 meters (2,838 feet). This high altitude provides a climate similar to Hokkaido, with an average annual temperature of approximately 9°C (48°F), perfect for cultivating around 1,500 species of alpine and cold-climate plants from around the globe.
