A shrine brimming with history and tradition, located right near Kishiwada Castle. A powerful spot that comes alive during the grand entry of the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri festival.
Kishijo Shrine is located in Kishiwada City, Osaka Prefecture, east of Kishiwada Castle. The enshrined deities are Amaterasu Omikami, Susanoo no Mikoto, and Hondawa-no-mikoto. It has long been cherished by the local people. It is particularly famous for the Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri, a festival held annually in September. This festival features over 70 'danjiri' (elaborate festival floats) racing through the town, offering a breathtaking spectacle. Each danjiri makes a grand entry into Kishijo Shrine, creating an electrifying atmosphere. Because Kishiwada Castle was once known as Chikiri-jo (meaning 'severed-contract castle'), Kishijo Shrine is also revered as a god of matchmaking (Chigiri-no-kami). Therefore, many people visit to pray for romantic success. The grounds also include subsidiary shrines such as Kishiwada Ebisu Shrine and Inari Shrine, each offering different blessings. Kishijo Shrine is not only a place to experience history and tradition but is also known as a power spot. Visiting it in conjunction with Kishiwada Castle and the Danjiri Matsuri will allow you to fully appreciate the charm of Kishiwada. Kishijo Shrine is a 15-minute walk from Kishiwada Station on the Nankai Main Line. Nearby attractions include Kishiwada Castle and the Kishiwada Municipal Local History Museum, making it a great addition to your sightseeing itinerary.
