Horikawa Ebisu Shrine, long cherished as Osaka's god of good business, is famous for its vibrant Toka Ebisu festival held annually from January 9th to 11th.
Overview
Horikawa Ebisu Shrine, located in Kita-ku, Osaka, has long been revered as the god of prosperity. The "Toka Ebisu" festival, held annually from January 9th to 11th, is a major winter event attracting countless visitors. During Toka Ebisu, people seeking business success write their wishes on Fukusasa (bamboo leaves) and offer them to the shrine, or pray to the statue of Ebisu, the god of good fortune. The shrine grounds are filled with stalls, creating a lively atmosphere. The sight of Fukumusume (shrine maidens) bestowing Fukusasa on worshippers is also a characteristic feature of Toka Ebisu. Beyond Toka Ebisu, various festivals are held throughout the year, keeping the shrine lively. If you're visiting Osaka, be sure to visit Horikawa Ebisu Shrine.
