The Former Mori Family Residence is the former home of the Mori family, wealthy merchants of Toyama, built during the Meiji period. This invaluable building tells the story of Toyama's prosperity through Kitamae-bune shipping. It's full of highlights, including a spacious earthen floor (doma), beautiful rooms in the Sukiya-zukuri style (a style of Japanese architecture emphasizing simplicity and elegance), and much more, offering a glimpse into the lives of wealthy merchants of the time. Many exhibits within the building showcase the daily life of that era. For example, you can see Edo-period chests used on ships and maps of Kitamae-bune routes, allowing you to imagine the daily life and commerce of the time. Designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan, the Former Mori Family Residence is a precious place offering a glimpse into the lives of wealthy merchants of that era. Be sure to visit!
