The Saeki Residence is a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan located in Minoshima, Fukuoka-machi, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. Construction began in 1767 (Meiwaku 4), and the following year, the residence of "Sanosuke" in the former Kawasaki Village (Kami-Kawasaki, Nanto City), approximately 15 kilometers southwest, was purchased and relocated. Sanosuke was from a prominent family, serving as the Ju-son-yaku (village headman) for the Kaga Domain, suggesting the original building predates 1767 considerably. The Saeki Residence is highly valued for its age among farmhouses in the Toyama plains, and its unique architectural features— particularly the extension to the rear of the building incorporating an "oroshi" (a type of structure)—led to its designation as an Important Cultural Property in 1971 (Showa 46). While a private residence and not open to the public for interior viewing, it can be admired from the outside. The surrounding area boasts other historical buildings, including the former Kawasaki Village Office and the former Fukuoka-machi Office, also designated Important Cultural Properties. A must-see for history buffs!
