The Gomadoyama Hydrangea Garden is located on Gomadoyama Mountain (274m), in Tagami Town, Minamiuonuma District, Niigata Prefecture. From mid-June to early July, approximately 5,000 hydrangeas bloom in a riot of color, transforming the garden into a breathtaking spectacle. Gomadoyama Mountain has a long history as a Shugendo (mountain ascetic) training ground, and once housed Gomado Castle at its summit. Today, it's a popular hiking spot, especially for beginners, with a trail leading to the summit in about 40 minutes. From the top, you can enjoy stunning views of the Echigo Plain and the Sea of Japan. Beyond the hydrangeas, the garden boasts a variety of other plants, offering beautiful scenery throughout the year. Enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage. Remnants of the mountain's castle past, such as moats, ramparts, and fortress ruins, are scattered throughout the area, offering a glimpse into history.
