Overview

Hyakko Lake, located in Chuo-ku, Niigata City, is an irrigation pond created during the Edo period. While once used to irrigate surrounding farmland, it's now renowned as a wintering habitat for swans and is designated a national natural monument. From around November to March each year, numerous swans grace the lake's surface with their elegant dances—a truly breathtaking sight. Besides swans, you can observe various other waterfowl, including ducks and herons. Hyakko Lake offers stunning seasonal beauty: cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage painting the lake in the fall. A well-maintained promenade runs along the lakeshore, perfect for leisurely strolls or cycling. Restaurants and shops are located nearby, providing ample opportunities for rest and refreshment. It's an ideal spot for birdwatching and photography. The surrounding area boasts other attractions, including Hyakko Mizukin Park and Hyakko Yashiki no Mori Brewery. Hyakko Mizukin Park features playground equipment and a grassy lawn, making it family-friendly. Hyakko Yashiki no Mori Brewery offers craft beers brewed using Hyakko Lake's pristine spring water. Hyakko Lake is a place to connect with nature and soothe your soul. We highly recommend a visit.
