Fukushimagata is the largest lagoon in Niigata Prefecture, located in Kita-ku, Niigata City. Boasting an expansive area of 193 hectares, it's a natural treasure trove known for its biodiversity, with over 220 bird species and 450 plant species identified. Spring is especially spectacular, with approximately 3 hectares of rapeseed flowers blooming, forming a breathtaking yellow carpet. The lake's surface reflects the majestic Goto mountains, creating a truly awe-inspiring view. Fukushimagata is designated as a nationally protected bird sanctuary, attracting numerous migratory birds, including the *oohishikuis* (Swan Goose), a nationally designated natural monument. It's also home to rare plants like *onibasu* (water caltrop), *mizuaoi* (water hyacinth), and *mikuri* (water plantain), all of which are becoming increasingly scarce nationwide. The surrounding area offers excellent tourist facilities, including Mizu no Koen Fukushimagata (Fukushimagata Water Park) and View Fukushimagata, providing opportunities for nature walks and cycling. Spend some relaxing time at Fukushimagata, enjoying the beauty of nature throughout the four seasons.
