Overview

The Nagatoro Hodosan Winter Sweet Garden is a tourist spot located near the summit of Mount Hodosan (497m above sea level) in Nagatoro-machi, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture. From late December to late February, approximately 800 plants (about 3,000 blossoms) of winter sweet burst into bloom, filling the air with a sweet fragrance. Winter sweet, a deciduous shrub native to China, produces yellow flowers resembling plum blossoms. In this garden, you can see three varieties of winter sweet: early, middle, and late blooming. The winter sweet flowers, standing tall and beautiful even in the cold, offer a warmth that makes you forget the winter chill. The garden also offers a commanding view of Chichibu's cityscape and majestic mountains, including Mount Buzō and Ryōshinzan. Boasting one of the finest views in the Kanto region, on a clear day, you can see far-off mountains. You can leisurely enjoy the stunning scenery while enveloped in the sweet aroma of winter sweet. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom, allowing you to appreciate the changing seasons. The Nagatoro Hodosan Winter Sweet Garden is a healing space where you can feel the breath of early spring.
