Overview

The Hodosan Ropeway is a ropeway located in Nagatoro-machi, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture, leading to the summit of Mount Hodosan (Hodosan), which stands at 497 meters above sea level. Nagatoro is a well-known tourist destination featuring stunning rock formations and gorges carved by the Arakawa River over many years, and Mount Hodosan is considered a symbol of Nagatoro. The Hodosan Ropeway opened in 1961 and has since become a beloved landmark in Nagatoro. Two gondolas (with a capacity of 50 people each) operate using a four-wire circulating system, moving between the summit and base stations. The ride to the summit takes about 5 minutes. From the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the majestic Chichibu mountain range. On clear days, you can see distant mountains, making it a truly breathtaking experience. Around the summit station, you'll find Hodosan Shrine's inner sanctuary and a small animal park, as well as seasonal flowers. Winter features winter sweet, spring boasts plum blossoms, and early summer brings vibrant azaleas, creating a stunning display of color. You can also enjoy views of Chichibu's townscape, Mount Bukou, and Mount Ryokami from the summit. By Train: Chichibu Railway, Nagatoro Station. A 20-minute walk from the station. By Car: Approximately 20 kilometers from Route 140 (Hanazono Interchange exit). Approximately 13 kilometers from Route 299 (Chichibu City, Ueno). Extended hours in summer and early morning operation on New Year's Day are also available. There is approximately a one-week closure period around January each year for inspection.
