Hodosan Ropeway

Overview

The Hodosan Ropeway is a ropeway located in Nagatoro-machi, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture, leading to the summit of Mount Hodosan (Hodosan), which stands at 497 meters above sea level. Nagatoro is a well-known tourist destination featuring stunning rock formations and gorges carved by the Arakawa River over many years, and Mount Hodosan is considered a symbol of Nagatoro. The Hodosan Ropeway opened in 1961 and has since become a beloved landmark in Nagatoro. Two gondolas (with a capacity of 50 people each) operate using a four-wire circulating system, moving between the summit and base stations. The ride to the summit takes about 5 minutes. From the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the majestic Chichibu mountain range. On clear days, you can see distant mountains, making it a truly breathtaking experience. Around the summit station, you'll find Hodosan Shrine's inner sanctuary and a small animal park, as well as seasonal flowers. Winter features winter sweet, spring boasts plum blossoms, and early summer brings vibrant azaleas, creating a stunning display of color.
