Senjojiki Kar is a glacial landform (cirque, or kar) located directly beneath Hotaka-dake in the Central Alps (Kiso Mountains), straddling Komagane City and Miyada Village, Nagano Prefecture. Situated at an altitude of 2,612 meters (8,570 feet), it showcases two extremes: a vibrant wildflower meadow in summer abundant with alpine plants, and the stark beauty of a snowy mountain in winter – a true testament to the power of nature. Senjojiki Kar's unique bowl-shaped terrain, carved by glaciers, resembles a giant crater. In summer, the area transforms into a breathtaking sky garden, alive with blooming alpine flowers. Numerous species, including Kinpokinbai, Chionanthus, and Hakusan-ichige, thrive here, creating a breathtaking display. Well-maintained walking paths wind through the kar, allowing visitors to leisurely explore the alpine flora and enjoy the scenery. From the trails, you can take in a 360-degree panorama of majestic mountains, lush forests, and a brilliant blue sky. Access to Senjojiki Kar is via the Komagatake Ropeway from Komagatake Kogen. The ropeway swiftly ascends approximately 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) in just 7 minutes, offering stunning views of the mountains outside your window – a truly heavenly journey.
