Founded in 856 AD, it holds the prestigious designation of Shikinaisha (a prominent shrine listed in the Engishiki, an ancient Japanese document). The principal deity is Sukunahikona-no-mikoto, with Onamochi-no-mikoto as an associated deity. Sukunahikona-no-mikoto is known in Japanese mythology as a god who participated in nation-building and is also revered as Ebisu, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. Sakatura Isomae Shrine has been a center of faith for centuries, renowned for its power to heal illnesses. Sukunahikona-no-mikoto is particularly known as the ancestor of medical science and pharmacology, attracting many visitors seeking healing.
