INFO
For visitors with pets:
After purifying yourselves at the temizuya (water basin), please proceed to the main shrine without touching anything as much as possible before receiving your Goshuin. Touching amulets or Goshuincho (sacred seal books) with hands that have touched pets is considered bad manners at many shrines and temples. This applies to people as well; please refrain from touching amulets, etc., with hands that have touched your head or soil.
Ōarai Isosaki Shrine, located in Ōarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a power spot where history and nature seamlessly blend. Founded in the 9th century, it was later rebuilt by Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito domain, after a devastating fire. Its most famous feature is the "Kamisogo no Torii," a shrine gate dramatically situated on the coast. Its seemingly floating appearance is mystical, making it a popular spot to watch the first sunrise of the year. The torii gate, standing strong against the crashing waves, inspires awe and strength. The shrine grounds exude a solemn atmosphere, with numerous historical structures including the main hall (honden), worship hall (haiden), and the guardian gate (zuishinmon). The expansive Pacific Ocean view from the grounds is truly breathtaking. Ōarai Isosaki Shrine is also revered as the deity of medicine, and the water springing from within the shrine grounds is believed to cure eye diseases. Ōarai Town is also known for its thriving fishing industry, offering visitors the chance to savor fresh seafood. With nearby attractions such as the Ōarai Aquarium and Ōarai Sun Beach, it's a perfect destination for families. A visit to Ōarai Isosaki Shrine promises a refreshing experience for body and soul!
