As a photography and film museum, we hold exhibitions showcasing outstanding works from Japan and abroad with unique perspectives.
Overview
The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is one of the few museums in the world specializing in photography and moving images. Opened in 1995, it was the first museum of its kind in Japan dedicated to photography in general.
It actively holds exhibitions showcasing excellent works from Japan and abroad with unique perspectives, attracting a wide range of people, not just photography enthusiasts.
The museum's architecture was designed by the world-renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa. Its distinctive exterior and interior are symbolic of the museum itself.
The museum has three exhibition rooms, each hosting exhibitions on different themes.
The first floor features a hall where films and videos are screened.
A library, museum shop, and cafe are also located within the museum.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography is a place where you can view and contemplate contemporary society from various angles through photography and moving images. We encourage you to visit.
