Overview
Yugo Onsen is a hot spring located in Yugo, Mimasaka City, Okayama Prefecture, boasting a history of over 1200 years. Its origins trace back to the Heian period, with a legend stating that Ennin, a priest from Enryaku-ji Temple, discovered the spring while on a pilgrimage, after witnessing a white heron healing its injured leg in the waters.
Historically cherished as a spa town, Yugo Onsen has attracted many seeking its high-quality waters. The spring's quality is sodium-calcium-chloride spring (hypotonic weakly alkaline spring), reputedly effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, and joint pain.
Recently developed as a "health resort" combining hot springs and sports, it features jogging trails, a sports plaza, a rugby field, tennis courts, baseball fields, and swimming pools. The onsen town also boasts a toy museum and charming retro streetscapes, making it ideal for family trips.
