Oshuku Onsen

Overview

Oshuku Onsen is a serene hot spring resort located in Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate-gun, Iwate Prefecture, nestled amongst mountains at an elevation of approximately 500 meters. Tradition holds that it was discovered during the Tenpyo period by a farmer from Kaga Province. A legend persists of a woodcutter named 'suke', who had migrated from Kaga Province, discovering a Japanese bush warbler healing its wounds on the riverbed. The onsen features sulfurous hot springs with source temperatures ranging from 57°C to 62°C. It is believed to be effective for various ailments, including neuralgia, muscle pain, and cold sensitivity. The onsen town boasts a line-up of historic Ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) and hotels, each offering unique onsen experiences.
