A breathtaking open-air bath where you can soak in the hot springs while watching the sun sink into the Japan Sea!
Overview
Koganazaki Furofushi Onsen is a single Ryokan hot spring located on the coastline of Fukaura Town, Aomori Prefecture.
Its open-air bath, seemingly integrated with the endless horizon, offers a truly spectacular view. Enjoy the luxury of soaking in the hot springs while watching the sunset.
The water is initially clear, but the iron content quickly oxidizes, turning it a deep brownish-red.
It's also highly saline; you can taste the saltiness when you sip it. This high salt content means the water retains its heat well, warming you from the inside out.
The hot spring area consists solely of the one Ryokan, "Furofushi Onsen," creating a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Access is approximately a 15-minute walk from Tomosaku Station on the Gonosen Line. A free shuttle bus is available from Wespa Tsubakiyama Station if you use the Resort Shirakami train.
While the Resort Shirakami doesn't run every day in winter, a free shuttle bus is available from Shin-Aomori Station; reservations are required.
Day trips are possible, costing 600 yen for adults and 300 yen for children.
Overnight stays are also available, so those wishing to relax and enjoy the onsen at their leisure should consider staying overnight.
