Perched within Kaguraoka Park overlooking Asahikawa city, Kamikawa Jinja Shrine was established in the Meiji era as a guardian deity for the development of the Kamikawa region.
Kamikawa Jinja Shrine is a historic shrine nestled in Kaguraoka Park, overlooking Asahikawa city. Established in 1893 (Meiji 26) to enshrine Amaterasu Omikami, the deity protecting the development of the Kamikawa region, it was relocated several times before finally settling at its current location in 1924 (Taisho 13). Since then, it has become a beloved place of worship for the local community. The expansive grounds boast a Maiden (noh stage), a rare find in Hokkaido, where noh performances are held. You can enjoy the beauty of nature throughout the four seasons. Cherry blossoms abound in spring, vibrant autumn leaves paint the landscape in fall, and a magical snowy scene unfolds in winter. The grounds also feature many attractions, including a petting ox said to grant wishes and a sacred tree associated with matchmaking. In summer, windmills and wind chimes create a refreshing atmosphere. Surrounded by a peaceful ambiance, you'll find a tranquil and calming experience. Come visit Kamikawa Jinja Shrine and immerse yourself in history and nature.
