The Kurayoshi Museum, established in its current location in 1974, succeeded the Kurayoshi Local History Museum, which opened in 1968. This comprehensive museum, divided into art and history sections, exhibits works by prominent local artists such as Western painter Kanji Maeda and Japanese painter Takehiko Suga. Kanji Maeda, a Western painter from Kurayoshi, was active from the Taisho to Showa periods. He is known for his realistic style, particularly excelling in portraiture and landscapes. Takehiko Suga, a Japanese painter from Kurayoshi, flourished during the Meiji and Showa periods. While employing traditional Japanese painting techniques, he established his own unique style. The Kurayoshi Museum allows visitors to appreciate many of their masterpieces and other works. The history section showcases archaeological materials, including important cultural properties excavated from sites around Kurayoshi. These materials offer insights into the history and culture of Kurayoshi. The Kurayoshi Museum provides a deep dive into the history and culture of Kurayoshi. Be sure to visit!
