Overview

Sumiyoshi Shrine is a historic shrine located in the heart of Yamaguchi City. It has long been revered as a deity for safe voyages and bountiful catches. Founded in the early Heian period, its shrine buildings were reconstructed in the Edo period. Towering ancient trees, some hundreds of years old, stand within the grounds, creating a sacred atmosphere of serenity.
