Izumo Oomiya Shrine is located in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture. It's a Saku-naishi (designated shrine mentioned in the Engishiki), a Myojin Taisha (a shrine of the highest rank in the ancient system), and the Ichinomiya (most important shrine) of Tango Province. Traditionally, it was believed that Miwakeyama mountain was the sacred mountain (shintai-yama), and the main hall is said to have been built in 709 (Wadō 2). Izumo Oomiya Shrine enshrines Ōkuninushi-no-mikoto and his consort, Mihotsu-hime-no-mikoto, as the chief deities. Known for its blessings in matchmaking, it attracts many worshippers. Within the grounds, "Mana-no-mizu," a sacred spring revered since ancient times, is said to cure various illnesses and grant longevity. The shrine grounds contain a late Kofun period burial mound with a horizontal-shaft tomb and the Chiyose Kurumazuka Kofun, the largest Kofun period tumulus in Kuzu-Tanba, offering glimpses into history. The main hall is designated an Important Cultural Property, boasting an impressive structure. On Miwakeyama, the sacred mountain (shintai-yama), there is an iwaza (rock shrine) enshrining Kunosaronushi-no-mikoto, where you can experience a sacred atmosphere.
