Mikami Shrine

Overview

Mikami Shrine, located in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, is an ancient shrine with a history spanning over 1300 years. Mount Mikami (also known as Ōmi Fuji), its sacred mountain, stands at approximately 450 meters and has been an object of faith since ancient times. Nestled at the foot of Mount Mikami, Mikami Shrine enshrines the deity Amenomikoto. This deity, a child of Amaterasu-ōmikami, is believed to bestow blessings related to agriculture, fishing, martial arts, business prosperity, and warding off evil. The highlight of Mikami Shrine is undoubtedly its main hall, designated as a National Treasure. Built during the Kamakura period, it is characterized by its robust construction. The grounds also feature other attractions such as the gate built in the Muromachi period and a mountain trail leading to Mount Mikami, the sacred mountain.
