Be awestruck by the imposing sight of "Akujou no Kabe," Japan's largest single-rock cliff!
Akujou no Kabe is a cliff formed by the Shomyo Falls (Shomyo River) eroding a lava plateau created by a massive eruption of Mount Tateyama. It boasts the title of Japan's largest single-rock cliff. It's also known as the "second floor of Akujou no Kabe" due to its two-tiered structure. 'Aku' (悪) means "frightening and repulsive," and the name aptly describes its overwhelming power. Large indentations at the base of Akujou no Kabe are avalanche chutes, formed by the erosion of harder rock by avalanches. From the observation deck, you can get an up-close view of this magnificent cliff, and its sheer scale is guaranteed to leave you breathless. The surrounding area also features numerous attractions, such as the Shomyo Falls and the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, making it a great place to combine with other sightseeing.
