A breathtaking dam lake where over 10,000 maple trees blaze with fiery red hues in autumn.
Momiji Lake is an artificial lake located in the northern part of Ina Valley along the Tenryu River, which originates from Lake Suwa, almost in the center of Minowa-machi, Nagano Prefecture. Construction began in 1980 and was completed in 1992. The dam supports the water supply system for the northern Ina Valley. Due to the dam's construction, the residents of this area were forced to relocate. With the hope that this place would become a famous spot for future visitors, they planted maple trees. After about 30 years, these trees have transformed this area into one of Ina Valley's most scenic autumn destinations. Maple tree avenues line the perimeter of Momiji Lake, with a particularly stunning sight known as the "maple tunnel." Maple trees planted on both sides of a gentle slope have grown together, creating an archway of branches that blocks out the sky. This creates a peaceful scene that captivates all who visit. Momiji Lake is known for its beauty throughout the year, not just during autumn foliage season. You can enjoy the fresh greenery of spring, the lush foliage of summer, and the vibrant colors of autumn. Dam enthusiasts can also collect a "Dam Card" here. Momiji Lake embodies the hopes and dreams of the people whose lives were affected by the dam's construction, as well as the breathtaking beauty created by nature. We invite you to visit and experience its charm firsthand.
