A mixed-use commercial facility located at Kagoshima's gateway, offering stunning views of Sakurajima.
Dolphin Port was a mixed-use commercial facility located in Honko Shinmachi, Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. It opened in April 2005 and closed in March 2020. Situated at Kagoshima's gateway, it boasted breathtaking views of Sakurajima. The two-story, all-wood structure resembled a Southern island bungalow and housed approximately 20 shops, mainly specialty product stores and restaurants. It offered local cuisine featuring fresh ingredients and unique Kagoshima souvenirs, making it popular with both tourists and locals. Dolphin Port also provided a window into Kagoshima's culture and history. The facility included a corner where visitors could experience traditional Kagoshima performing arts and a gallery showcasing local artwork. A dedicated event space hosted various seasonal events, adding to the lively atmosphere. After its closure in March 2020, the site temporarily operates as a monthly parking lot. However, future plans include potential development into a soccer and rugby stadium, hotel, and other visitor attractions. Its future transformation is highly anticipated.
