Daisenji Temple is a Bettoku Honzan temple of the Tendai sect located in Daisen-cho, Saihaku-gun, Tottori Prefecture. Situated at the foot of Mount Daisen, the highest peak in the Chugoku region, it has served as a sacred site for mountain worship, attracting numerous pilgrims for centuries.
Said to have been founded in the 8th century, its principal image is Jizo Bosatsu. The temple grounds boast numerous historical structures, including the main hall, Amida-do hall, and bell tower.
The Amida-do hall, particularly, built in 1552 (during the Tembun era), is designated as an Important Cultural Property. This gabled and hipped roof building houses a wooden Amitabha Buddha statue and two attendant statues, attributed to Ryoen in 1131 (Tencho era).
Furthermore, Daisenji Temple boasts Japan's longest stone-paved approach. Flanked by cedar trees, this path creates a serene atmosphere. This approach has served as a pilgrimage route for many people since ancient times.
Midway along the approach lies the grave of Junpo, the founder of Daisenji Temple, who is said to have established the temple in 718 AD (Yo-ro 2).
Daisenji Temple is nestled at the foot of Mount Daisen, abundant in nature, offering beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. From cherry blossoms in spring to verdant foliage in summer, autumn leaves in fall, it's a place worth visiting year-round.
In recent years, Daisenji Temple has gained attention as a power spot. In particular, the "Oogamiyama Shrine Okumiya" on the temple grounds is said to offer blessings for matchmaking and warding off evil.
Daisenji Temple is a sacred place where history, nature, and faith harmonize. Recommended for those seeking to refresh their mind and body, to find peace in a tranquil space, or to explore power spots.
