Overview
Kumanosuke Minakata was a naturalist, folklorist, and philosopher who flourished from the Meiji to the Showa periods. While known for his research on slime molds, he also conducted research in various fields, including folklore, botany, zoology, anthropology, philosophy, religion, and history. The Minakata Kumanosuke Memorial Hall introduces Minakata's life and diverse research achievements using extensive materials, videos, and models. Highlights include a recreation of Minakata's study and an exhibit showcasing new species of slime molds he discovered. The adjacent Former Residence of Kumanosuke Minakata is the house where he spent his later years. Visitors can stroll through his study and garden, imagining his life immersed in research and gaining a deeper understanding of his philosophy and way of life. Explore both the Memorial Hall and the Former Residence to discover the untold charm of Minakata.

Admission to the Commemorative Museum is free.
A fee is required to visit the Kumanan Minami Residence.
