A historic shrine nestled at the foot of Inuyama Castle. The impressive approach lined with vermillion torii gates is a must-see!
Sanko Inari Shrine is a historic shrine located in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, at the foot of Inuyama Castle. While its founding date is unclear, a tradition places it in 1586 (Tensho 14). It was originally located within Inuyama Castle, on San Gokojiyama (currently within Marunouchi Ryokuchi Park). It has long been deeply revered by Oda Nobuyasu, the uncle of Oda Nobunaga, and served as the guardian deity of the successive generations of the Naruse family, the lords of Inuyama Castle. Prayers have been offered here for peace in the land, bountiful harvests, prosperous business, and safe travel. The shrine was relocated to its present location in October 1964 (Showa 39). The highlight of Sanko Inari Shrine is undoubtedly the approach lined with vermillion torii gates. The sacred atmosphere is palpable, and simply walking along it feels purifying. The shrine grounds also feature Sarutahiko Shrine, known as the god of opening paths, believed to bring blessings for romance and career success. Furthermore, there are various other shrines, including Himekame Shrine, which offers blessings for matchmaking, and Zeniarai Inari Shrine, where it's said that washing money there multiplies it. Sanko Inari Shrine is a power spot you should definitely visit when exploring Inuyama Castle. 【Access】 About a 12-minute walk from the west exit of Inuyama Yuuen Station on the Meitetsu Line.
