Shizuoka City Nihonpira Zoo, operated by Shizuoka City, is located in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City. Situated on a hilltop approximately 200 meters above sea level, it offers stunning panoramic views of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay, and is home to approximately 600 animals of around 150 species. The zoo's exhibits are designed to allow for observation of animal behaviors in environments as close to their natural habitats as possible. For example, the elephant enclosure provides ample space for elephants to roam freely. The giraffe enclosure features a high vantage point allowing visitors to get an up-close view of these majestic creatures' long necks. Big cats like lions and tigers are housed in spacious enclosures, showcasing their power and majesty. Visitors can also observe penguins swimming freely in their habitat.
The zoo also boasts excellent facilities for young children, including petting zoos and playgrounds. In the petting zoo, children can interact directly with goats, sheep, and other animals. The playground features a variety of equipment such as slides and swings, providing hours of fun for kids.
Shizuoka City Nihonpira Zoo is a wonderful place to foster appreciation for nature through encounters with animals. It's highly recommended as a fantastic day-out for the whole family.
