With the majestic Northern Alps as a backdrop, the Azusa River flows, and alpine plants bloom in profusion. It's a truly breathtaking landscape, perfectly deserving of the title 'Japanese Alps'.
Overview
Kamikochi is a mountainous region at an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters, located almost in the center of the Northern Alps, straddling Nagano and Gifu prefectures. The Azusa River flows through it, and many alpine plants bloom, creating a beautiful landscape. It's a representative tourist destination in the Northern Alps, often called the 'Japanese Alps'.
Kamikochi was designated as Japan's first national park in the Taisho era and became widely known as 'the most beautiful place in Japan' in the early Showa era.
The charm of Kamikochi is, without a doubt, its magnificent nature.
Located at an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters, the air is crisp, the views are expansive, and you can see distant mountains.
Kamikochi also boasts many tourist spots, including Kappa Bridge and Taisho Pond. Kappa Bridge is a bridge spanning the Azusa River and is a symbol of Kamikochi. Taisho Pond was formed by the Taisho eruption in 1915, and the reflection of the Northern Alps in its waters creates a beautiful scene.
