The Fire Museum, officially the Tokyo Fire Department Fire and Disaster Prevention Information Center, is located in Yotsuya, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. It showcases materials related to the history and activities of the Tokyo Fire Department.
Opened on December 3, 1992, it houses over 12,000 items, including firefighting equipment and books.
Key exhibits include real examples of Edo-period fire-fighting equipment, fire pumps from the Meiji era to the present, fire-resistant clothing, firefighting equipment, a real fire helicopter, and a real firetruck.
There are also plenty of exhibits and hands-on corners for children, such as a corner where they can try on miniature firefighter uniforms and take photos, and a corner where they can sit in the driver's seat of a firetruck for a commemorative photo.
The museum also hosts special exhibitions and film screenings.
The Fire Museum is a museum where both adults and children can enjoy a blend of learning and entertainment.
It's easily accessible from Exit 2 of Yotsuya-Sanchome Station on the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line. Admission is free, so feel free to stop by.
