Experience hyperrealistic paintings so lifelike they're almost photographs, nestled in a modern museum adjacent to the lush Showa no Mori (Showa Memorial Park).
Overview
The Hoki Museum is a world-class museum dedicated to hyperrealistic painting. It houses approximately 500 works collected over many years by the late Masuo Hoki, a collection highly regarded both domestically and internationally. The museum's modern architecture harmoniously blends with the surrounding greenery of Showa no Mori, enhancing the overall artistic experience.
The highlight is undoubtedly the collection of hyperrealistic paintings. Prepare to be awestruck by the incredible realism; you'll feel transported into the world of the paintings. The museum boasts the largest collection of works by Sosuke Morimoto in Japan – a must-see. You'll also find numerous pieces by renowned contemporary artists such as Hiroshi Noda and Tadahiko Nakayama.
The museum also features a restaurant and cafe serving delicious food and wine. Enjoy a meal or a coffee break during your visit.
The Hoki Museum is perfect for those who want to delve deeper into the world of hyperrealistic painting, art enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a relaxing escape in a lush natural setting. We highly recommend a visit.
Take the Chiba Chuo Bus from platform 3 at JR Sotobo Line Tochigi Station's south exit, bound for "Asumi Gaoka Bran New Mall." Get off at the "Asumi Gaoka Higashi 4-chome" stop (approx. 5-minute ride). The museum is a 2-minute walk from the bus stop. Alternatively, it's a 20-minute walk from the south exit of JR Sotobo Line Tochigi Station.
By car, take the Chiba-Tokane Road to the Nakano Interchange, then head onto the Oami Kaido. Turn right at the Chiba City Showa no Mori Park entrance (look for the Hoki Museum sign), then left at the second traffic light (look for the Hoki Museum sign). The museum is immediately after the second traffic light. You can also access it via the Metropolitan Expressway Central Circular Route (Ken-o Expressway), opened on April 27, 2013, using either the Mobara-Kita Interchange or the Oami-Shiraito Smart Interchange (ETC only). Note that older GPS systems may not be able to find it. For accurate navigation, search for the Hoki Museum's dedicated parking lot address: "3-13 Asumi Gaoka Higashi, Midori-ku, Chiba-shi, Chiba Prefecture" instead of the museum's building address.
