A museum nestled within a vast garden, boasting one of Japan's largest collections of modern and contemporary art.
The DIC Kawamura Museum of Art was established to showcase the art collection amassed by three generations of the Kawamura family, beginning with Kisaburo Kawamura, the founder of DIC Corporation. Opened in 1990, it resides on the 300,000-square-meter grounds of DIC Corporation's comprehensive research institute. Designed by Ichiro Ebihara, the museum's architecture evokes the feel of a European castle or wine cellar. Inside, expansive gallery spaces—reminiscent of a gymnasium—provide ample room for the impressive collection of large-scale contemporary artworks. A particular highlight is the "Rothko Room," exclusively showcasing seven works by Mark Rothko, originally created for the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York's Seagram Building. A beautiful garden surrounding the museum offers a tranquil space for leisurely strolls throughout the year. On-site restaurants and cafes provide opportunities to relax and rejuvenate. The DIC Kawamura Museum of Art offers a unique opportunity to engage with modern art, connect with nature, and refresh both body and mind.
