The approximately 2.2km cave interior is lined with beautifully arranged stalactites and stalagmites of various shapes, making you feel as if you've wandered into another world. With a history spanning 800 years, Fuji-do Cave has been cherished by the local people for generations. Around 400 years ago, An-so, the founder of Fujiyama Kichijoji Temple, was the first to successfully explore this cave, and used it as a place of training, giving Buddhist-inspired names to various locations within the cave. The cave was also renamed "Daihukujutsuana" (Great Fortune and Longevity Cave) after the mountain's name, and this name was spread by the monks. Approximately 200 years ago, an epidemic swept through the Kawawa settlement. Etsugan, the sixth chief priest of Kichijoji Temple, wrote the Tendai's 100-volume scriptures in ink on numerous stones and enshrined them in this cave, praying for the cessation of the epidemic. Afterwards, to prevent such disasters from happening again, the name of this cave was changed to "Fuji-do Cave." Today, Fuji-do Cave continues to be cherished by the local people. When visiting Fuji-do Cave, why not immerse yourself in the mystical beauty of the cave while reflecting on its history?
