A 140m-long suspension bridge spanning the Kinugawa Valley. Enjoy magnificent nature and stunning valley views from the bridge.
The Kinugawa Tateiwa Great Suspension Bridge is a approximately 140m-long pedestrian-only suspension bridge connecting the southern part of Kinugawa Onsen town and "Tateiwa" (Shield Rock). From the bridge, about 37m above the river, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Kinugawa River's rapids carving their way through large rocks, and the surrounding lush mountains. "Tateiwa" (Shield Rock), towering upstream from the bridge, is named for its resemblance to a shield used in battle; it stands approximately 100m tall. An observation deck at the summit of Tateiwa offers a panoramic view of the Kinugawa River's clear stream, the onsen town below, and the beautiful mountain range of the Kogen Mountains, including Tori-cho-zan, in the distance. The Kinugawa Tateiwa Great Suspension Bridge is attractive not only for its magnificent scenery but also for the surrounding trails. Beyond the bridge, you'll find numerous highlights, including the Tateiwa Observatory, a hand-carved tunnel, the Tateiwa Kinuhime Shrine, and the stunning Furugama Falls, with its crystal-clear water cascading over the rocks. From the "Tateiwa Observatory," you have a commanding view of the Kinugawa Valley. During the autumn foliage season, the mountains blaze with fiery reds and yellows, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The hand-carved tunnel offers a glimpse into the Sengoku period (Warring States period) history of this region. The view that unfolds beyond the tunnel feels like a hidden sanctuary, allowing you to escape the everyday. The Tateiwa Kinuhime Shrine has been a place of worship for generations. Known as a power spot, many people visit to pray for romantic success or marital harmony. The Furugama Falls are a beautiful cascade with crystal-clear water flowing over rocks. The water in the pool at the base of the falls is incredibly clear, exuding a mystical atmosphere. The Kinugawa Tateiwa Great Suspension Bridge is a truly captivating tourist spot where magnificent nature, history, and faith converge. Come and experience its charm for yourself!
