• Please wear trekking shoes when exploring.
• To reach "Yuhi no Taki" (waterfall base), a portion of the trail requires traversing a stream bed (approximately 100 meters) off the official path (no signposts). Conditions in this area change annually due to fluctuating water levels. Please prioritize safety and avoid unnecessary risks.
• Please pay close attention to weather conditions and avoid unnecessary risks. As this is an upstream area of the valley, sudden weather changes, such as localized torrential rain, can rapidly increase water levels. Please prioritize safe exploration.
The prefectural road 56 (Shiobara-Yaita Line) to Sukkanzawa is closed during winter. The area beyond Naginataiwa (Naginata Rock) is currently closed due to rockfalls. To reach Hokou Hekireki Falls and Raitai Falls, you can access them via a walking path from "Yama no Eki Takahara" in Yaita City.

Overview
Sukkanzawa is a hidden gem located approximately 55 minutes by car from Shimotsuke Onsen town in Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture.
This stream originates from the caldera of Takahara Mountain, and its water is rich in volcanic minerals and carbonic acid, giving it a distinctive blue-white shimmer in places.
In the past, the water was reportedly too sour to drink, leading to its name "Suzukanzawa" (sour-tasting stream). Over time, this name evolved into the current "Sukkanzawa."
A well-maintained walking path follows the stream, making it easy to explore.
Along the path, you can admire several impressive waterfalls, including Yuhi no Taki, Hokou Hekireki no Taki, and Raiten no Taki.
Yuhi no Taki is a powerful waterfall approximately 30 meters high, where you can feel the refreshing spray.
Hokou Hekireki no Taki is a spectacular waterfall cascading down rocky surfaces, its roar echoing through the valley.
Raiten no Taki is a serene and beautiful waterfall, perfect for enjoying the negative ions.
Sukkanzawa is truly a hidden paradise surrounded by lush nature.
It's the perfect place to escape the daily hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature.
However, Tochigi Prefectural Road 56 (Shimotsuke Yaita Line) leading to Sukkanzawa is closed during winter. Furthermore, the area beyond Naginataiwa Rock is currently closed due to rockfalls. To reach Hokou Hekireki no Taki and Raiten no Taki, you can start your hike from "Yama no Eki Takahara" in Yaita City.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes for your hike.
Always pay attention to the weather conditions and avoid taking unnecessary risks. As this is an upstream area of the valley, sudden changes in weather, such as localized heavy rain, can rapidly increase water levels. Please prioritize your safety during your visit.
