Overview

Aizu Han School Nisshinkan, located in Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, is a meticulously reconstructed replica of the former domain school of the Aizu clan. Founded in 1798 (Kansei 10), it nurtured numerous individuals who went on to make significant contributions during the Boshin War and beyond, including members of the famed Byakkotai. While the original Nisshinkan was destroyed in the Boshin War, it was faithfully rebuilt in 1987 to its former glory. The reconstruction accurately replicates the building's structure and atmosphere, allowing visitors to imagine the lives of the Aizu samurai children who studied there. The museum exhibits period textbooks, documents, and daily necessities, offering insights into the education and culture of the Aizu clan. The grounds also boast an archery range and martial arts dojo, where visitors can even experience these traditional disciplines. Aizu Han School Nisshinkan is an invaluable resource for learning about the history and culture of the Aizu clan. It's a recommended tourist spot for history buffs and families alike. Immerse yourself in the history and culture of Aizu with a visit to the Nisshinkan.
