Overview

Located in the northern part of the Oga Peninsula, Akagami Shrine Gosa-do Hall captivates visitors with its rich history and mystical atmosphere. The sight of five shrines standing majestically, built during the Edo period, is truly awe-inspiring. The 999 stone steps are said to have been built by ogres overnight, a legend intertwined with the Oga Namahage folklore. As you ascend, you'll encounter the Sugata-mi no Ido, a well where pilgrims once reflected their images to divine their fortune for the coming year, offering a glimpse into the past. The stone staircase is more than just a pathway; it's a historical path where mountain ascetics once rigorously trained. Today, it's a popular trekking course known as "Oyama-kake," allowing visitors to enjoy the magnificent natural scenery. Akagami Shrine Gosa-do Hall is a sacred place in Oga, a harmonious blend of history, legend, and nature. It's a place where you can refresh your mind and body, feeling the breath of ancient faith while enjoying the breathtaking views. When visiting Oga, be sure to visit Akagami Shrine Gosa-do Hall.
