A historic castle ruin overlooking the Sendai Plain. A popular cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, it still boasts the remains of a corner turret (Taikodo).
Overview
Wakaya Castle is a historic castle ruin built on a small hill overlooking the Sendai Plain. Once ruled by the Wakaya clan, vassals of the Date clan, the castle was abandoned after an incident known as the Date Sodo. However, a corner turret (Taikodo), a remnant of its past, still stands today.
Known as a cherry blossom viewing spot in spring, the castle ruins and surrounding area are breathtakingly beautiful when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Developed as a castle park, it's perfect for leisurely strolls and picnics. Wakaya Shrine is also located within the park, offering a blend of history and nature.
When visiting Wakaya Castle Ruins, be sure to see the corner turret (Taikodo) and imagine what the castle was like in its heyday. Enjoy a relaxing stroll amidst the cherry blossoms in spring. Experience history and nature at Wakaya Castle Ruins.
