Aomori Prefectural Asamushi Aquarium is located at the northernmost tip of Honshu overlooking Aomori Bay. It houses and exhibits approximately 514 species and 11,000 specimens, including abundant aquatic resources from Aomori Prefecture and rare aquatic animals from around the world. The aquarium features a 15-meter-long tunnel aquarium recreating the sea of Mutsu Bay, allowing visitors to observe up close the cultivation of scallops, a representative seafood product of Aomori Prefecture, and the fish inhabiting Mutsu Bay. The incredibly popular dolphin performance takes place daily in an indoor pool. The dolphins' dynamic jump performances, synchronized to music inspired by Tsugaru shamisen and Nebuta festival music, are a unique Aomori experience. Furthermore, the aquarium offers various facilities, including a "Marine Animal Hall" where you can see penguins, seals, and sea lions swimming up close; a "Touch Corner" where you can directly touch marine creatures; a "Dolphin Hall" offering a close-up view of dolphins; and a "Gift Shop" selling marine goods, stuffed animals, and other souvenirs. It's an aquarium where you can fully enjoy the abundant nature of Aomori and the diverse charm of its aquatic life.
