Overview

Joukurabashi Bridge, located in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, spans National Route 394, connecting the Tsugaru and Nanbu regions. It holds the title of Japan's longest upper-deck arch bridge. With a total length of 360 meters and a height of 122 meters above the valley floor, it offers panoramic views of the majestic Hakkoda mountain range. Constructing the bridge presented significant challenges due to the rugged terrain of the Joukura Gorge. This gorge was once a notorious bottleneck for transportation between Aomori and Kuroishi cities. The opening of Joukurabashi Bridge dramatically improved the Aomori Prefecture transportation network. Joukurabashi Bridge is also captivating for its stunning seasonal beauty. From the budding spring leaves to the summer greenery, the vibrant autumn foliage, and the winter snowscape, the bridge offers ever-changing scenery throughout the year. The autumn foliage season is especially mesmerizing, with the mountains ablaze in red and gold, captivating all who visit. Parking and restrooms are conveniently located at both ends of the bridge, allowing visitors to leisurely enjoy the views. Nearby attractions include the scenic Joukura Gorge and Kayano Highland, offering further opportunities to explore the abundant natural beauty of the region. Joukura Gorge is part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park, preserving unspoiled nature. The gorge's rock walls, formed by the columnar jointing of quartz andesite from the mid-Miocene volcanic activity, are truly awe-inspiring. Joukurabashi Bridge is a beloved tourist destination, representing the best of Aomori Prefecture. If you want to experience the grandeur of the Hakkoda mountain range, this is a must-see location.
