A group of red brick warehouses where you can feel the history of the Meiji era. The perfect base for your Hakodate sightseeing, offering shopping, dining, and events.
Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse is an iconic landmark in Hakodate. These seven red brick warehouses, built in the early Meiji period, were once used as warehouses for a shipping company operating in Hakodate Port. It all began when the first Kumajiro Watanabe opened Kanemori Youbutsu-ten, "a shop selling the dreams of foreign lands." He subsequently engaged in warehousing, making a significant contribution to Hakodate's economic development. However, as times changed, the warehouses lost their function and remained abandoned for a long time. In 1988, they were reborn as a shopping mall, restaurants, and event venues, retaining their original appearance. Today, it's a popular tourist spot where visitors can experience Hakodate's history and culture. The retro atmosphere of the warehouse group remains, complemented by modern shops and restaurants, offering a relaxing space to enjoy the Hakodate cityscape. Kanemori Youbutsukan, in particular, boasts a wide array of antiques and imported goods that are fun to simply browse. At the Hakodate Beer Hall, you can savor dishes made with locally sourced ingredients and Hakodate craft beer. Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse is a place where you can enjoy a full day of shopping, dining, and events while immersing yourself in Hakodate's history.
