Chōtokuji Temple is a Rinzai sect temple belonging to the Myōshin-ji school, established during the Muromachi period by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Ashikaga Yoshimitsu was the first shogun of the Muromachi shogunate and a significant figure in Japanese history. Built in Yoshimitsu's later years, Chōtokuji Temple reflects his deep faith.
