A breathtaking waterfall originating from the Amagi Mountains, selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls! Enjoy the majestic nature while breathing in the negative ions.
Joren-no-taki Waterfall, located in Yugashima, Izu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a magnificent 25-meter-high waterfall selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. Situated on the Honryu River, which flows from the northwestern foot of the Amagi Mountains, its awe-inspiring cascade tumbles down a basalt lava flow formed by the eruption of the Hachikubo-yama scoria cone in the eastern Izu volcanic group approximately 17,000 years ago. The surrounding area is home to a thriving colony of *Hygrophila costata*, a plant designated as a Shizuoka Prefecture natural monument. Legend has it that the waterfall's name comes from "Joren-ji Temple," a temple that once stood near the left bank. Until a philanthropist created a path down to the waterfall in the Meiji period, the waterfall remained a mysterious and inaccessible sight, hidden behind cliffs and gorges. Today, souvenir shops line the area near the pool at the base of the waterfall, and you can also see nearby wasabi fields. While reaching the waterfall from the parking lot requires descending a staircase, the negative ion-rich air and the breathtaking scenery surrounded by lush greenery captivate all who visit. Furthermore, a monument commemorates the Enka singer Ishikawa Sayuri's hit song, "Amagi Goe," which features Joren-no-taki Waterfall in its lyrics. Joren-no-taki Waterfall is also a popular power spot where you can feel the powerful forces of nature. Why not experience the magnificence of this waterfall and the surrounding abundant nature?
