Overview

Tatega-saki is a specially protected area within Yoshino-Kumano National Park in Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, with a well-maintained walking path leading from the mountains to the coast. Known as a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the sheer cliff face of Tatega-saki, resembling a shield rising from the sea, is particularly impressive and captivates many visitors with its power and majesty. Along the walking path, you'll find other attractions such as Akoshi Shrine and Senjo-jik, allowing you to enjoy a stroll immersed in the abundant nature and history of the area. Akoshi Shrine is a 10-minute walk from the Tatega-saki parking lot, offering stunning ocean views from beyond its torii gate. A 40-minute walk from Akoshi Shrine leads you to Senjo-jik, a rugged rock formation. From there, you can gaze out at the ocean and marvel at the imposing cliff face of Tatega-saki. While it takes about 35 minutes to walk from the parking lot to Tatega-saki, the journey itself is filled with natural beauty and is well worth the effort. Although the path is well-maintained, there may be rockslides or fallen trees in some areas, so wearing comfortable shoes and clothing is recommended. Be aware that there is also a possibility of encountering bears.

Parking is available at Tategasaki Park. Restrooms are located near the parking area. While the walking trails are well-maintained, there's a possibility of encountering rockslides or fallen trees in some areas. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing. Also, please be aware that there is a possibility of bear encounters.
