A park developed on the former site of the residence of music critic Moto-o Otaguro. It features a stroll-style Japanese garden where you can enjoy flowers throughout the four seasons.
Otaguro Park is a park developed on the former site of the residence of music critic Moto-o Otaguro. Before his death, Moto-o wished to donate 30% of his property to the community as a park. Honoring his wishes, his family donated the land to the Suginami ward, which, along with surrounding land, was developed into the park. The park's design reflects Moto-o's wishes, aiming to preserve as much of the original garden as possible. The ginkgo tree-lined avenue extending from the main gate remains from the original garden, creating a beautiful landscape that soothes visitors. A pond, originally part of the estate, has been recreated, and the vibrant flowers blooming throughout the seasons create a picture-perfect scene. Otaguro Park is highly regarded as a successful example of a harmonious blend of Japanese and Western garden styles, utilizing traditional Japanese garden techniques. The design, which harmonizes with nature, and the meticulous landscaping bring peace and wonder to visitors. The park includes a rest area, a tea room, and a memorial hall housed in a renovated brick Western-style atelier built in 1933. The memorial hall displays materials related to Moto-o's life, works, and music, allowing visitors to connect with his passion for music. Otaguro Park is a beautiful park where nature and culture blend. It's recommended for those who want to relax and enjoy a peaceful time away from the hustle and bustle of the city. With its flowers and trees throughout the seasons and historically significant structures, it is full of sights to see. We encourage you to visit.
