Tsuzura Tanada, nestled in the mountains of Ukiha City, boasts approximately 400 years of history. The sight of 300 rice paddies cascading down the mountainside like a series of linked boxes is truly breathtaking.
Nestled in the mountains of Ukiha City, Tsuzura Rice Terraces are a stunning example of Japanese rice terraces, boasting approximately 400 years of history and selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Rice Terraces. Around 300 rice paddies cascade down the mountainside, creating a scene that resembles a painting. Upstream from the terraces lies the Kagome village. Due to the area's thriving forestry industry, the village developed near the forest, with the rice paddies cultivated in sunny locations. A road runs alongside the terraces, offering stunning views from the middle slopes and panoramic vistas from the Yahoo Plaza at the head of the terraces. In autumn, the contrast between the golden rice and the vibrant red spider lilies is breathtaking. The Shinkawa district, where the rice terraces are located, is nationally recognized as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, retaining the charm of old Japan with thatched-roof houses. Numerous eateries dot the area, including wild herb bagel shops, traditional houses converted into cafes, galleries and cafes, restaurants specializing in yamame (a type of trout), farm stay accommodations, and smokehouses. Around mid-September, approximately 500,000 spider lilies bloom in the Shinkawa rice terraces, drawing many visitors to the annual "Spider Lily Festival & Basara Festival." In Kagome district, a rice paddy ownership program allows participants to experience rural life by taking part in rice planting and harvesting. The rice harvested by the owners is later delivered to their homes. Tsuzura Rice Terraces showcase the beautiful harmony of nature and human endeavor. Come and see for yourself!
