The only site in Japan with four circular stone arrangements!
The Ise-do-dai Site is a prehistoric site from the early latter half of the Jomon period, located on a river terrace at an altitude of 40-45 meters in Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture. It's renowned for being the only site in Japan where four circular stone arrangements (stone circles) have been discovered. These stone circles are quite large, with diameters ranging from approximately 32 to 45 meters, and are remarkably well-preserved. Post holes of dwellings and pit graves have also been found around the stone circles, providing insights into the settlement of the time. The Ise-do-dai Site was designated a national historical site in 2001 and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2021 as part of the "Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Hokkaido and Northern Tohoku." This World Heritage registration has significantly increased attention to the site, attracting numerous tourists. The Ise-do-dai Site is a precious site where you can learn about the history and culture of the Jomon period. The surrounding natural environment is also beautiful, offering opportunities for pleasant walks. Be sure to visit the Ise-do-dai Site and experience the life and culture of the Jomon people firsthand.
