The Onnenai Boardwalk is a roughly 3km-long walkway located on the western side of Kushiro Shitsugen. Designated as a special area within the Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, this marsh boasts a precious ecosystem and is critically important for nature conservation. In mid-to-late June, you might witness the magical sight of fireflies (heike-botaru) dancing in the air. If you're lucky, you might even spot the tancho crane, a symbol of the marsh. The marsh is also home to various plant species, each showcasing a unique beauty throughout the seasons. Spring brings delicate flowers like mizubashou (Skunk Cabbage) and ryukin-ka (Globeflower), summer offers lush greenery, autumn paints the marsh with vibrant fall colors, and winter showcases the dignified tancho crane against a snowy backdrop.
