Overview

Takamine Castle is a castle ruin located in Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This flat mountain castle sits atop Takamineyama mountain, at an elevation of 120 meters, overlooking Yamaguchi City. It is said to have been built in 1551 by Motonari Mori. Takamine Castle played a crucial role as a base for the Mori clan's conquest of western Japan. However, after the Battle of Sekigahara, the castle was abandoned. Today, the castle ruins have been developed into a park, serving as a relaxing spot for local citizens. From Takamine Castle, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Yamaguchi City. Remnants of the castle, such as the keep's foundation and stone walls, remain, allowing visitors to connect with its rich history. The castle grounds are ablaze with cherry blossoms in spring and boast stunning autumn foliage, offering picturesque scenery throughout the year.
